Benefits for Educational Institutions
Email system,
Web folders,
and E-learning

Use OwnMailTM to provide your institution with a full featured, ready to use email system, and get a free web site to boot! OwnMailTM can be used for your staff, or to provide email access to your students, or even to provide email to your web site visitors!
OwnMailTM has special features to support educational institutions. Students can be given email ids for life e.g if John is from the 1994 batch of your institute xyz.edu, then he can be given an email id of the form john@1994.xyz.edu. He can keep this for life. If your institution is divided into schools, such as one for science etc., then email ids can be of the form someone@science.xyz.edu. It can even be a combination of the two methods.
The email system can be completely controlled by you. It has an advanced delegation structure such that staff or students can be nominated to administer parts of the system. In this way the system does not increase your managerial workload.
The web site can similarly be designed and maintained by you or your students. It can be updated at will, and updates are instantaneously reflected in the web site.
OwnMail was also designed with the requirements of students in mind. No special college infrastructure, networking or in-house technical maintenance staff is required. Internet use amongst youth is via a combination of cyber cafes, sharing of computers of friends and home computers. OwnMail builds on this informal infrastructure by delivering an e-learning system that can be accessed from anywhere and is specially designed for shared computer access. All services can be used from within a browser from any computer without any prior configuration.
Services include unlimited email accounts (5 - 2,000 MB space each), web based control system with delegation of administrative rights, and many email tools such as global address books, global messages, and complete administrative control over users under the domain. The administrator can completely customise the mail system with your logo, color scheme and logout page.
Our plug-in technology ensures that your email system is up and running in 15 minutes. OwnMailTM can be used for setting up an email system from ground up, or for replacing an older email service. Our helpdesk will be glad to help you in this process.
An important feature for users is the ability to pick up mail from unlimited Hotmail, Yahoo and POP accounts. This gives users an easy migration path.
The email system is rich in features, displays complex HTML messages and is designed with the advanced email user in mind. For example, it has a unique reminder feature, which allows the users to set reminders for tasks set by email.
We do everything related to the email system, including hosting the service, maintenance, and technical support. By choosing OwnMailTM as your service provider, you get the benefit of the world's most powerful email service. Best of all, you can have this without paying us a penny.
We believe OwnMailTM is the world's best-featured mail system. We could go on ad infinitum about its virtues, but if you are sufficiently interested, then you could browse a demo. You will need to do the following things to take the demo: -

  • Go to the top of this page and click on "Demo".
  • Subscribe for the demo by entering your email address. OwnMailTM will assign you a test subdomain under "owntest.com". This is a dummy domain, in production it will be "yourdomainame.com". Here you will be able to see the tools that the administrator is provided to control his email system. Please feel free to upload your logo or change the color scheme as you wish. Most of these options are available under the "administer" button. Try creating other users and delegating rights to them. By distributing administrative rights, OwnMailTM simplifies management.
  • You can then create an ordinary user without any administrative rights, logout as administor, and login back as this new user. This will show you what features an ordinary user has. Note that the "administer" button has disappeared from his menu. Should the demo satisfy you, please sign-up or contact us at helpdesk@ownmail.com for further details.
